Luke 19:1-10

Pastor Jon Bryars preaches through Luke 19:1–10, using Jesus’ words that the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost as the lens for Zacchaeus’s story and organizing the sermon around two truths: Jesus seeks the lost and Jesus saves the lost. Although Zacchaeus appears to be seeking Jesus, Jesus has already sought him—calling him by name, intentionally coming to his house, and inviting him into a personal relationship rather than distant observation—so the right response is to receive Christ with joy. Jesus’ welcome of sinners is not an affirmation of sin but salvation from it: Zacchaeus is saved through receiving Jesus by faith, while his generosity and restitution are the fruit of that salvation and his new identity as one of God’s people.
